Fibers, Yarns, Thread, Roving
The physical properties of these textile semi-finished materials are determined primarily by tensile testing. Preparation of the specimen is done according to the requirements of the respective standard. Zwick has suitable testing machines and the matching extensometers but primarily practical specimen grips and jaw inserts that assure a reliable test process. Several examples of testing applying the EN ISSO 2062 standard are given below. This standard lays down the procedure for determining the breaking force and elongation at break of textile yarns taken from packages.

Tensile Testing of Thread
Tensile testing on thread is done in accordance with EN ISO 2062. In the present example, specimen screw grips are used and the elongation is measured over the crosshead travel. The test is reproduced in a typical force-strain diagram.

Tensile Testing of Multi-filament Thread
Smooth and with a tendency to twist, multi-filament thread imposes increased demand on the test set-up. In this case, the material is stretched in a rope specimen gripper and the elongation is recorded using an optical extensometer system The EN ISO 2062 standard also applies for this test.

Tensile Testing of Double Lisle Thread
Pneumatic toggle specimen grips are used for testing lisle thread in accordance with EN ISO 2062. The elongation is measured by means of the crosshead displacement.
