Universal Hardness Testing

Universal hardness testers cover more than just one hardness measurement method. They are flexible and can be employed for many applications. Thus they offer excellent value for money if you need more than just one test.

The most Universal Hardness Tester of the World

The ZHU2.5/Z2.5 is the most versatile all-round hardness tester the world has ever seen. It is based on a materials testing machine type "zwicki": Simply mount the hardness measurement head. The hardness measurement head is constructed so that it can be used with all Zwick materials testing machines, and for automation. Equipped with other tools or grips, this modular test system is also suitable for tensile, compression and flexure tests.

testXpert® is also utilized as the test software. A cost-optimized supplement has been developed solely for optical hardness test methods.

Integrated in the hardness measurement head are a digital travel measurement system, a load cell and an
interchangeable indentor with measurement transducer.

On the whole the hardness measurement head encompasses all hardness tests with indentation depth measurement, e.g. Universal Hardness HU macro range or Martens hardness HM, Rockwell hardness, ball indentation hardness H, Vickers depth measurement HVT, and Brinell depth measurement HBT.

A supplementary Optic unit is used in conjunction with the hardness measurement head when testing according to Vickers, Knoop or Brinell. This unit consists of a measurement microscope with up to 4 objective lenses and a linear slide unit that permits the position between the measurement microscope and the loading assembly to be changed, thus guaranteeing that a component to be tested does not shift.

ZHU 187,5

The types of the universal hardness tester Zwick/ZHU 187.5 are employed for testing of Vickers, Brinell and Rockwell hardness.

Features:

  • Types for different load combinations
  • Dead weight loading
  • Variable test sequence timing from 1 to 50 seconds
  • Screen display of hardness number and scale resolved to 0.1 e.g. 60.3 HRC
  • Hardness tolerance setting
  • Statistics ( x and R)
  • Various conversion options
  • Integral microscope with measuring shutters and push-button for transfer of dimensional data to the electronics
  • Simple operation via automatic load application and removal, diagonal value transfer at the touch of a button, automatic evaluation of hardness number and load changing via rotary switch

Zwick ZHU 250

This Universal Hardness Tester with its excellent price/performance ratio is used for both: classical hardness tests on metals and for the testing of plastics, in particular.

It works, for example, according to the Rockwell R, L, M, ?(alpha) test methods and determines the ball indentation hardness. All conventional optical hardness test methods (Vickers, Brinell, Knoop) and the depth measurement method (Rockwell) can also be carried out in compliance with the standards within a load range from 1 to 250 kg.

The essential features bearing out the quality of the machine are its ease of operation, an outstandingly large test area, the measurement without parallax error (with the lines of measurement being integrated in the ground-glass screen optics), a fully automatic test sequence, and the use of a high-precision closed loop system. Another plus is the extraordinary depth of focus. With the RS232 connection to the test software testXpert®, all tests can be evaluated and documented. For example, data can be transferred to quality assurance systems for further processing.

Customized accessories for a large range of applications are available to the customer.
