Tensile Test

Standards ISO 527-1/-2 and ASTM D 638 both specify tensile testing methods and are technically equivalent, but do not provide fully comparable results as specimen shapes, test speeds and result determination differ in several points.

A testXpert® II Standard Test Program allows users of Zwick testing machines to be confident of always using the correct test parameters, whether testing to ISO or ASTM.

Modulus determination, particularly to ISO 527, demands high accuracy (± 1 µm) from the extensometer employed. Zwick’s digital extensometers - Macro, MultiXtens, OptiXtens, plus the digital clip-on extensometers - fulfil the requirements completely or exceed them and allow measurement of displacements up to 700 mm in Classes 0.5 or 1.

Typical Products for this Application:

Testing Machines to 5 kN

Three models are available - 500 N, (112lbf), 1 kN (224 lbf), 2.5 kN (562 lbf) and 5 kN (1125 lbf).

ProLine Testing Machine

The two-column ProLine testing machine is specially designed for function-testing components and for routine materials testing.

Allround-Line Testing Machine

Finding the optimum solution to your test requirements is easy thanks to the Allround Line's wide range of load frames. Options include table-top and floor-mounted testing machines with nominal forces ranging up to 250 kN, various heights and widths and a second test area.

testXpert® II - Testing Software for Static Testing Systems

testXpert® II brings you the benefits of more than 80 years’ of materials testing experience and over 10,000 successful testXpert® installations worldwide. Learn more about the intuitive, easy-to-use software which anticipates your needs.

Temperature chambers

Temperature chambers are used in a temperature range of -80 up to +250 °C.

Xforce load cells

The patented Xforce load cells are only available from Zwick Roell. These high-precision load cells are used for all our load frame ranges. Their design is based on the principle of axial/rotational symmetry, making them highly insensitive to transverse forces.

Extensometers with high resolution

Extensometers with high measured value resolution are used to determine the tensile modulus in plastics testing and are available as mechanical contact systems or non-contact optical measurement systems. For lower testing volumes, Zwick supplies simple manually applied extensometers, while operator-friendly automatic attachment systems are available for frequent testing. Swiveling knife-edges allow these extensometers to remain attached until specimen break without being damaged.

Long-Travel Extensometers

Long-travel extensometers are used to determine yield points when testing thermoplastics and for measuring strain at break with rubber and TPEs. Both mechanical contact and optical systems are available.
