Mflow extrusion plastometer

The basic version of the Mflow extrusion plastometers can be used to determine the melt mass flow rate (MFR). The plastometer features modular design; using the piston transducer expands Mflow's capabilities to include determination of melt volume flow rate (MVR), plus automatic adaptive parameter configuration. Typical uses are in quality assurance and goods inwards checks.

Description of application

The Mflow is a modular, expandable instrument with which you can determine the melt mass and melt volume flow rate. Affordable to setup and gradually expand at any time.

You can expand the Mflow with, for example, the pneumatic weight lifting unit or the weight pegging unit. The extrusion plastometers are equipped with heating elements that are specially adapted to the thermal conditions of extrusion barrels and instrument housings. This achieves a very good distribution of temperature over space and time.

Operation of the Mflow via a PC offers all the advantages of the Zwick Roell testing software: Up to six instruments can be operated with one PC.

  • The basic version of the Mflow extrusion plastometer is designed to perform MFR tests to Method A and can be expanded for MVR tests to Method B. Tests to the following standards are possible:
  • Methods A and B to ISO 1133, ASTM D1238, ASTM D3364, JIS K 7210.

Cleaning

Simplified cleaning and quick specimen remains purge

There is a die plug on the underside of the extrusion barrel. Once removed, the die falls downward. This makes it possible to easily remove the die.

This also makes it possible to quickly purge all specimen remains after the test is complete. Cleaning is simplified because the barrel is always accessible.

The Mflow weight-selector option combines the advantages of pneumatic weight-lifting with the convenience of simple, safe and reliable changing of test weights, ensuring secure weight-storage and an operator-friendly test sequence.

Additional information on the weight selector

Pneumatic weight lifting unit

  • The Mflow extrusion plastometer can be fitted with test weights according to the plastic in use.
  • To ease the load on the operator, the weights can be raised and lowered by a pneumatic weight-lifting unit with no physical effort required.
  • The test weight can automatically be raised by the weight-lifting unit when the pre-heating position has been reached.
  • This minimizes any premature flow of the plastic granulate during the preheating period.
  • If test weights with test loads of, for example, 2.16 kg, 5 kg, 10 kg or 21.6 kg are used with Mflow, we recommend use of the pneumatic weight-lifting unit or the weight selector.

Weight selector

  • The weight selector contains the pneumatic weight-lifting unit plus the test weights listed below.
  • If test weights are changed frequently we recommend use of the weight selector.
  • The piston-holding device retains the piston in a freely definable position during the preheating phase.

Extrudate cutter and die plug

The manual extrudate cutter is recommended for cutting intervals greater than one minute. For short cutting intervals use of the automatic extrudate cutter is recommended in order to obtain precisely timed cuts. The die plug prevents premature outflow of the material when plastics with high flow-rates (>  10 cm3/10 min at load 0.375 kg) are being tested. When the die plug is used an extrudate cutter is required in order to eject the die plug automatically when the test begins.
