Operating principle

The grips are opened and closed via a lever.

A spring holds the specimen grip open for the specimen to be inserted. The shearing action creates the closing force at the beginning of the test. Per the shearing principle, automatic retightening occurs as the tensile force increases, which is advantageous for specimens that decrease in section during testing.
