Semi-Automatic Testing System with Glow Wire

This semi-automatic testing system with glow wire is used to perform tests on plastics to IEC/DIN EN 60695-2-12 GWFI or IEC/DIN EN 60695-2-13 GWIT. 

During these tests, the fire behavior of plastics is determined using a glow wire. In the process, the glow wire is pressed against a circular plastic plate. The result is then included as a characteristic value in the properties of the plastic.

Determination of Glow Wire Flammability Index (GWFI)

Tests to IEC/DIN EN 60695-2-12 determine the Glow Wire Flammability Index (GWFI).

In a glow wire temperature range from 550°C to 960°C, this is the highest test temperature at which flames or smoldering material self-extinguish within 30 seconds of removing the glow wire. Tissue paper placed underneath the specimen must not be ignited by burning droplets. The specimen itself must not ignite either.

Determination of Glow Wire Ignition Temperature (GWIT)

The plastic specimen is held through gripping
The specimen is usually a circular plastic test plate with a diameter of 85 mm and a thickness of 0.75 mm, 1.5 mm, or 3 mm.

The testing system is equipped with a motorized sliding carriage on which the specimen is driven toward the glow wire. At the end of the prescribed time, the specimen is automatically returned to the starting position.
